Rainy Days (Rose)

Posted in Outfits on September 27, 2010 by stylisticalanomalies

I woke up today and the world looked like this:

And my umbrella looks like this:

So I dressed like this:

Why not dress to match one’s umbrella? Why not, indeed?

Dress: thrifted, reconstructed by me

Belt: can’t remember

Socks: Powell’s Bookstore

Boots: L.L. Bean

Umbrella: L.L. Bean

I love rainy weather. Hopefully it’ll cool down the planet some.

I went to the wedding of my mom’s 70 year-old cousin yesterday. I haven’t been to wedding since I was a kid. And never to a wedding of an elderly couple. It was delightful.

This outfit is exciting because not only is it very 50s with the full skirt and pearls, but I made the whole thing myself.

Then, after the wedding, my mother and I went fabric and junk shopping. I want everyone to admire this giant pile of fabric that is going to be made into fall clothes, and the box of old patterns that my mom’s friend bought at a thrift store.

I also have a new necklace from this awesome store.

Anyways, for all of this shopping, I wore this:

Theeeeenn I went to a party at Rose’s place , in which a giant blanket fort was constructed in Rose’s living room, and we all sat on the floor and ate macaroni and cheese (them)  and vegan tomato soup (me and them), while watching an epic movie about a dwarf named Willow trying to protect a cute redheaded baby from something or another. I wore these pants:

I’m making a plaid skirt! (Daisy)

My outfit is unremarkable today. I mean there’s a neat butterfly on the back of my shirt:

But really? I’m wearing a tank top and shorts, like everyone else on campus….

So! I am using my post today to show you my awesome plaid-skirt-in-progress!

Really, really in progress. I’m not sure what, but SOMEthing was so compelling that I had to get up and leave this skirt right in the middle of a seam. I think I had looked out the window and decided I needed to have an impromptu picnic. Yes, I think that was it.

Too Damn Hot

I very much dislike heat waves in September. They limit my options terribly. No sweaters, no hats, no scarves. Except for my snazzy chainmail scarf. The theme of the day is “Punked out Flower Fairy.” I think.

Not entirely happy with this, but too late to go back now. I wish my socks matched. Or that I’d worn sandals. I’ve sworn that I will wear the outfit I photograph, with no major alterations, but damn it’s gonna be murder walking around in boots all day…

Fluffy Dress: refashioned from a skirt, a gift from the lovely Daisy

Mismatched Socks: Gift (From Mother, who sometimes thinks I’m five)

Boots: L.L. Bean

Belt: Can’t remember, honestly. I think it came with a pair of pants.

Chainmail Scarf: Gift (From Mother, who knows me all too well sometimes…)

High of 96! (Daisy)

Today there is supposed to be a high of 96! Perfect weather for a tank top. Also, today is a skirt day because I clumsily spilled boiling water on my lap. No need to worry, I am highly knowledgeable in immediate burn treatment, so I am ok. But pants are a no-no today.

The back of this shirt is super cool, if I do say so myself.

Shirt: My own design 🙂

Skirt: Goodwill

Fake Pearl Necklace: Gift from my mother which was a gift from her aunt.

Also! I have a new favorite band. Do take a listen!

Some Call Me The Log Lady (Rose)

Ever seen Twin Peaks? It’s a TV show by David Lynch about a small logging town in the Pacific Northwest. One of the characters on Twin Peaks is the Log Lady, a prophetic character who carries, at all times, a log:

Being the stylish young woman I am, I immediately saw the potential here. Unfortunately it’s a bit hot for a shawl-collar sweater, and the big city is not exactly lousy with logs. So I opted for a lumberjack theme and a log purse.

Yes, you heard me right. A log purse. A gift from a former employer who found it while cleaning out her purse collection. I kid you not.

Plaid Shirt: Scary JCPenney Warehouse of Grayness (I’ll tell you all about it sometime)

Pencil Skirt: Forever21, by way of a thrift store

Shoes: L.L. Bean

Log Purse: Dubious gift

Technical Difficulties

Posted in Outfits on September 22, 2010 by stylisticalanomalies

Hey, everyone. Been having some issues with ye olde photo uploading. But here, at last, is my outfit.

Lacy tank top: Target

Pencil Skirt: Homemade, from a button-down shirt

Shoes: DSW

Belt: Gift from mother, who used to be stylin’

Necklace: Fab’rik of Richmond

Hopefully photos will be re-enabled by tomorrow so I won’t have to do this lousy linking thing.
