Posted in Outfits, Sewing on October 5, 2010 by stylisticalanomalies

Punk rock boots, plaid corset, and pristine button-down shirt? Yes, please. I feel like I’m back in the late 70s, early 80s.

Button-Down Shirt: L.L. Bean Men’s Department

Corset: Made it myself

Jeans So Tight They Look Painted On: Gap

Black Boots of Doom: DSDubbleyou (my w key is broken)

And, for your listening enjoyment, a song about how cool and rebellious cassette tapes are:

A Day of Disappointments (Daisy)

Posted in Outfits, Sewing with tags , , , , , on October 4, 2010 by Daisy

I really wanted to wear a gray skirt today, so I made one yesterday, from this pattern:

Specifically the green one. Doesn’t it look cute in the picture?

Well, I wore it today.

And it just looks like I have a huge slit up my skirt. It’s a PLEAT, I SWEAR!

And the shoes and pink socks are bad…

And so are the shoes. It was drizzly! I didn’t want to get my cute shoes wet! Anyways, Michelle Obama has those shoes, so it’s okay.

Actually, I got multiple compliments on those socks and shoes. Well, all from the same person, but still.

So, then I went over to Rose’s house. I changed the socks. Purple socks look better. And, my adorable mouse shoes, their debut!

Ah!! What was I thinking?

And then I went on a blind date. I brought Rose along, because I didn’t really want to go. I wore this. The guy was doggedly boring. I took off the socks, thank humanity.

I think I just don’t do well in loose floppy t-shirts. I need them to be more fitted. Everyone was so very nice to me today, today. I hope it wasn’t because I looked silly…

Shirt: JCPenney (not the scary gray one)

Skirt: Sewn by my ownself.

Leggings: TJMaxx

Pink socks: Target

Purple socks: Scary gray JCPenney

Mouse shoes: DSW

Glittery Sneakers: DSW

Necklace: Present from mom

DIY Knits (Rose)

Posted in Outfits, Sewing with tags , , , , , , on October 4, 2010 by stylisticalanomalies

I woke up this morning, realized it was going to be chilly today, and rejoiced. why? Because all summer I’ve been waiting for the chance to wear knits, tights, layers. Basically everything I have going on today. And I will not sweat! Because it is cold! Haha! I made the dress and scarf myself, which makes me particularly proud.

Please excuse the dramatic facial expression. I was in kind of a hurry and couldn’t get a non-silly shot. Don’t I look cozy, though?

Sweater dress: made by me, back in July, out of 2 sweaters from the Salvation Army. The lady at the counter said, “Isn’t it a bit warm for that?” and I said “yes, but it won’t always be.”

2-Tone Scarf (worn as obi-belt): Knit by me.

Tights: Gift from Mother

Boots: L.L. Bean

EDIT: It has come to my attention that all of my facial expressions are as silly as the one in this picture. Disregard apology; apparently, this cannot be prevented.

Excessive Use of Plaid

Posted in Outfits, Sewing with tags , , , on October 1, 2010 by stylisticalanomalies

I’m kind of loving mixing plaids right now. I’m pretty sure this is a mortal sin in fashion-land. Ah, well.

Car Salesman Jacket: Goodwill

Shirt: H&M, altered and repaired by me

Corset-vest-thing: Me

Corduroys: Some Old Lady Store

Sneakers: Converse

Military Industrial (Rose)

It’s rainy and chilly and I feel like stomping around the city leading a revolution or something. This outfit is so comfortable and also, I think makes me look like a badass. It shows off my belly, of which I am quite fond.

Tank top: Target

Jeans: Also Target, I think?

Boots: L.L. Bean (At this point, are you really surprised?)

Hat: (not shown) knit my ownself

I also bought some nail polish last night. I like that it’s gunmetal gray and not some sissy girly color. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Now, onward to start my day. I feel like punching a bear but I’ll probably just be extra militant in my feminism. Get it? Militant? I…I give up.

A case of mistaken identity (Daisy)

Posted in Outfits, Sewing with tags , , , , , on September 28, 2010 by Daisy

I decided that today I was going to wear something I hadn’t worn in a very long time. So, I present to you the Repugnant Outfit of Rosy Doom!

The print….it’s so…..sinister, malicious almost. I frightened so many people.

Fittingly, this whole outfit came from the Scary JCPenney Warehouse of Grayness, which Rose has yet to write about. I don’t actually like the skirt so much, asides from the print. It’s just so……floppy.

On a happier subject, I am almost done with my plaid skirt! I am going to make a shirt that goes with it out this blue cotton rib fabric, which I just barely have enough of. Then I will have an Outfit. I have an Event next week that desperately needs an Outfit.

And here is the pattern for the shirt it is going to be. View D, the green one, but with shorter sleeves.

Fall is Here, Day 2 (Rose)

Posted in Music, Outfits, Sewing with tags , , , on September 28, 2010 by stylisticalanomalies

Mmm…fall. Time for tights. And boots. And…ludicrous puffy white skirts with things sewn onto them?

Please excuse the particularly goofy face and the quite-visible bed. I was taking these in a hurry before class.

Lacy tank: Converse for Target

Skirt: Sewed it my ownself, from some rags of cheesecloth-y material. My friend Grace added some random buttons and cloth flowers for effect.

Tights: TJ Maxx (Gift from mother)

Combat Boots: Doc Martens

This song seems very fall to me. And by that I mean autumn, the time of year where it starts to seem like a really good idea to set things on fire and dress in dingy colors and smash guitars.
